Beginners Irish Crochet Lace Workshop for Teens, Celbridge Library

At Celbridge Library · St Patrick's Park, Celbridge, Co. Kildare W23 VA47

Irish crochet lace workshop for teenagers at Celbridge Library, County Kildare

What to Expect

Celbridge Library hosts a beginners Irish crochet lace workshop aimed squarely at teenagers on Tuesday 18 August 2026, running from 11am to 12.30pm as part of National Heritage Week. The session is led by lace instructor Christina Kearney, who takes participants through the background of Irish crochet lace before putting hooks in hands.

The historical hook here is a good one. Irish crochet lace was genuinely revolutionary in the 1800s because it was the first three-dimensional crochet, worked in raised motifs rather than flat. Over the ninety minutes, participants make the most famous of those motifs, the Irish rose. No prior crochet experience is assumed, which is the point of a beginners class, and the workshop is free to attend. Kildare Library Service runs a cluster of craft and heritage sessions across its branches during Heritage Week, and this is one of two lace workshops at Celbridge, the other being a children’s session on Limerick lace the following morning.
