Baby Rhymetime at Gorey Library

At Gorey Library · Civic Square, Gorey, Co. Wexford

What to Expect

Gorey Library holds Baby Rhymetime every Thursday at 10.30am at the library in Civic Square, for babies aged 0 to 2 and the adults who bring them. It is free and no booking is needed.

The session is short, informal and built around songs and action rhymes rather than books. At this age the point is not comprehension, it is sound. Babies absorb rhythm, repetition and the shape of spoken language long before they have any words of their own, and a weekly half hour of rhymes is one of the simplest ways to feed that. Library staff lead the session, and there is no expectation of quiet. Feeding, crying and crawling off are all part of a normal morning.

For new parents in Gorey the session doubles as a way to meet other people in the same position, which for many is the real reason they keep coming back. Gorey Library also runs Toddler Storytime with art and craft on Tuesdays at 11am for ages 2 to 4, so babies move up into an established group when they outgrow the rhymetime, and Page Turners for ages 9 to 12 on the last Tuesday of the month.
