Glas is the restaurant inside Hotel Doolin, and its Thirty Mile Menu is a standing rule rather than a seasonal promotion: everything on the menu is reared, caught, grown or produced within thirty miles of the hotel. The kitchen buys directly from small farmers, fishermen, artisan producers and foragers across north Clare and the Burren, and names them on the menu. Suppliers that recur include Lunasa Farm, Garrihy’s Seafood, Moy Hill Farm, Flaggy Shore Oyster, St Tola goat’s cheese and Hazel Mountain Chocolate.

The format leans towards shared, tapas-style plates rather than a fixed starter, main and dessert, so the dishes shift with the season and with whatever the boats and the farms have that week. Food comes out on handmade plates by local potter Kevin Keane. The wine list carries organic options and the bar runs a cocktail menu built on the same local-sourcing principle. The room positions itself as casual rather than formal fine dining, with prices set to reflect that. Glas sits alongside the hotel’s other two food and drink rooms, Fitz’s pub, which has live music every day, and the Stonewall Pizzeria, so it is worth deciding which one you want before booking, particularly at weekends when Doolin fills with Cliffs of Moher and Aran ferry traffic.

Getting There

Hotel Doolin is at Fitz Cross in Doolin village, on the R479 in north Clare, roughly 35km north-west of Ennis and about 10 minutes’ drive from the Cliffs of Moher. The hotel has its own car park. Doolin Pier, with the Aran Islands and Cliffs of Moher ferries, is a short walk away, and Bus Eireann route 350 between Ennis, Lahinch, Lisdoonvarna and Galway stops in the village.
