Samhain Evening at Brigit's Garden

What to Expect

Samhain marks the end of the Celtic year and the turn into the dark half, and Brigit’s Garden holds an adult evening gathering for it on Friday 30 October 2026 at 7:30 PM. This is the quiet counterpart to the garden’s daytime Halloween programme for children: a candlelit evening, mainly indoors, with time around an outdoor fire if the weather allows.

The session combines storytelling, singing and meditation, with the focus on reflection and remembering those who have died. Participants are asked to think about what they want to let go of and what they want to set as an intention for the winter. The main part of the evening ends with drumming around the fire. After that it loosens into an informal gathering where anyone who wants to can share a song, a poem or a story of their own, with refreshments provided. Brigit’s Garden was built around the four Celtic festivals of the year, so Samhain is one of the dates the place exists for rather than an add-on to the calendar.

Getting There

Brigit’s Garden is at Pollagh near Rosscahill, signposted off the N59 Galway to Clifden road, about 15km northwest of Galway city and around twenty-five minutes’ drive. Follow the N59 out through Moycullen and take the marked turn shortly before Rosscahill village. There is free parking on site. There is no bus that stops at the garden, so plan to drive or take a taxi from Moycullen or Oughterard. The last stretch is on unlit rural road, so a torch is worth having for the walk between the car park and the buildings on a late October night.
