What to Expect

Howling Halloween is Brigit’s Garden’s midterm programme, running over the Saturday, Sunday and bank holiday Monday of 24 to 26 October 2026, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM each day. The three headline strands are the Gruesome Ghosts’ Treasure Hunt through the gardens, Spine-Tingling Storytelling with Galway storyteller Rab Fulton, and Spells and Smells with the Wacky Witch. A marquee holds face painting, spooky crafts and games, which gives the day a dry indoor fallback if the Connemara weather turns.

After the three main days, the Gruesome Ghosts’ Treasure Hunt keeps running as a self-guided trail from Tuesday 27 October to Sunday 1 November, included with regular garden admission. That suits families who want the midterm activity without the crowds of the bank holiday weekend: you collect clues and letters at your own pace around the gardens. Brigit’s Garden is laid out as four themed Celtic gardens across eleven acres of woodland and meadow, so the trail has real ground to cover rather than being a circuit of a lawn. Costumes are part of the day for most children who come.

Getting There

Brigit’s Garden is at Pollagh near Rosscahill, off the N59 Galway to Clifden road, roughly 15km northwest of Galway city and about twenty-five minutes by car. From the city, take the N59 through Moycullen and follow the signposted turn shortly before Rosscahill village. There is free parking on site. Public transport does not serve the garden directly: Galway to Clifden buses run along the N59 but do not stop there, so driving or a taxi from Moycullen or Oughterard is the realistic option. Oughterard is the nearest town with cafes and shops, about 8km further along the N59.
