Fun Family Day at The Makers House, Wexford

What to Expect

The Makers House on Wexford Quayside runs a family craft day on Saturday 15 August 2026, with four short sessions across the afternoon at 12 noon, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm. Each session lasts 45 minutes, so it fits into a day in town rather than taking it over.

The workshops are led by artists Mairead Stafford and Mary Wallace, and the theme is Wexford’s own coast and estuary. Participants work with a combination of materials, surface textures and techniques, taking their cues from the things you see from the quay: the trawlers in the harbour, the beaches, and the seals and seabirds along the Slaney estuary. It is a making session rather than a demonstration, so everyone leaves with something they made.

The day is billed for all ages, from about five up to ninety five, and children must be accompanied by an adult. That is a genuinely intergenerational format rather than a children’s workshop with parents waiting in the corner, and it suits families with grandparents in tow. Booking is essential because each 45 minute session has limited places.

Getting There

The Makers House is on Wexford Quayside, the long waterfront street that runs along the Slaney in the middle of Wexford town, within a couple of minutes’ walk of the Bull Ring and Cornmarket. Drivers arriving on the N11 from Gorey or the N25 from Rosslare and New Ross should follow signs for the town centre and use the Quay car parks, which are the closest option. Wexford O’Hanrahan railway station on Redmond Place is a five to ten minute walk along the quay, on the Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort line. Bus Eireann and Wexford Bus services stop on the Quay and at Redmond Square.
