HAY! at the Ardhowen

At The Ardhowen · Dublin Road, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh

Scarecrow puppet character on stage in a children's show at the Ardhowen, Enniskillen

What to Expect

HAY! is a children’s show about growing up in the countryside and discovering that you do not have to stay stuck in the mud. The central character is a scarecrow who wakes up to the wonders of the natural world around him, and the story is told through puppetry, music, clowning, song and dance rather than straight dialogue. That mix keeps it moving for an audience whose attention span is measured in minutes.

The Ardhowen recommends it for ages 3 and over, which puts it at the younger end of the theatre’s family programming. A 2:00 PM Saturday matinee slot means it works as an afternoon outing rather than eating into bedtime, and it falls on the same Saturday as WildeDay in Enniskillen town centre, so there is a full day to be made of it if you want one.

Getting There

The Ardhowen is on the Dublin Road just south of Enniskillen town centre, with a free car park on site, which makes it a straightforward run with small children and a buggy. Drivers from Dublin and Cavan come up the A509 and then the A4, Belfast traffic uses the M1 and A4, and the A32 runs south from Omagh. Enniskillen bus station on Wellington Road serves Ulsterbus and Bus Eireann, and a taxi covers the short distance from there to the theatre. Saturday afternoon parking at the venue is usually easy, though a family matinee fills the closest spaces, so arriving fifteen minutes early avoids a rush at the door.
