What to Expect

The Bloomfield Trail is Belleek Pottery’s children’s version of the factory tour, told through the character of the pottery’s founder Mr Bloomfield. Children are given a trail map and sent to find sixteen hand-drawn ceramic plaques positioned at the key points of the working tour, so the story of how the pottery is made unfolds as they go rather than being delivered as a talk. It takes about thirty minutes.

The trail runs through the working pottery, which is the real value of it. Depending on what is happening on the floor that morning, children may get to help with glazing or with inspecting finished pieces, seeing the process at the bench rather than through glass. Every child finishes with a completion certificate, a juice and a sweet treat, and accompanying adults get tea or coffee in the Tea Rooms afterwards. The route is wheelchair friendly.

Getting There

Belleek sits on the Fermanagh side of the border at the western tip of Lower Lough Erne, on the A46 from Enniskillen and the N3 and R230 from Ballyshannon and Bundoran on the Donegal side. From Enniskillen the drive along the lough shore takes about thirty five minutes and is one of the better runs in the county. The pottery is on Main Street at the bridge over the Erne, with parking at the visitor centre. Belleek is a short hop from Ballyshannon, so it combines easily with a day on the Donegal coast. Bus services to Belleek are limited, so driving is the practical option for an 11:00 AM start.
