What to Expect

Enniscorthy Library runs Rhyme Time every Tuesday at 10.30am at the library on Lymington Road. It is free, open to all ages within the baby and toddler range, and no booking is required, so you can arrive on the morning without having signed up for anything.

The session is a half hour of songs, action rhymes and nursery favourites led by library staff. The value of it is in the repetition. Hearing the same rhymes week after week is how very small children pick up rhythm, rhyme and the sounds that make up words, and all of that feeds into reading later on. Nobody is expected to sit still. Babies feed, toddlers wander, and the session carries on around them.

For parents in and around Enniscorthy, the Tuesday slot is also one of the few free, regular, indoor things to do with a baby in the middle of the week. The library is warm, there is space for buggies, and it costs nothing. Enniscorthy Library also runs The Cliffhangers book club for ages 8 to 12 on the last Thursday of each month and The Underlines young adult book club on the last Friday, so children can stay with the branch as they grow.

Getting There

Enniscorthy Library is on Lymington Road, a short walk from Market Square in the centre of Enniscorthy. Drivers coming on the M11 should leave at the Enniscorthy junctions and follow signs for the town centre, with public parking on Abbey Square and in the town car parks. Note that Enniscorthy is a steep town and some of the approaches from the river are hard work with a buggy, so the Abbey Square side is the easier option. Enniscorthy railway station is across the Slaney on the Templeshannon side, about fifteen minutes on foot, on the Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort line. Bus Eireann and Wexford Bus services stop in the town centre.
