Elf Town Dublin turns part of the RDS into a Christmas experience for families, running from 15 November through to Christmas Eve. It suits parents with younger children looking for a proper build up to Santa, with a themed walk through and a personalised visit rather than a quick queue and photo.
Booking information describes a 90 minute festive experience ending in a one to one visit with Santa, who shares individual details about each child as part of the encounter, presumably gathered from information provided at booking. Time slots are bookable in advance, and the organisers note that bookings can be transferred to a different day or time later if plans change, subject to availability. A two instalment payment plan is also offered for the cost of a visit.
The RDS is on Merrion Road in Ballsbridge, about 2km south of the city centre. Lansdowne Road DART station is a five minute walk from the main entrance, and Dublin Bus routes 4 and 7 run directly from the city centre. On site parking is available, which is worth considering with younger children and present bags in tow, though it is best to arrive early on weekends in December.
