Drogheda Credit Union Spooks Parade (Lú Festival opening)

The Drogheda Credit Union Spooks Parade takes to the streets of Drogheda on Friday, 23 October 2026 at 6:15pm, launching the Lú Festival of Light. It is free to watch and no ticket is needed.

What to expect

Droichead Arts Centre describes the parade as bringing the streets of Drogheda alive with ghoulish antics as it opens the Lú Festival of Light. It is a participative, collaborative cross-community arts project made with primary schools across Drogheda and East Meath, and the centre produces and coordinates it with artistic direction by Kieran Gallagher of Kada Ka Boom Arts. Drogheda Special Olympics and Droichead Youth Theatre take part alongside professional artists and musicians.

The parade brings schools, community groups, musicians, performers and families through the town to launch the festival weekend. The Lú Festival of Light itself runs from Friday, 23 October to Monday, 26 October 2026 and no tickets are required for the projection trail, which lights up the Old Abbey, St Peter’s Church and St Laurence’s Gate. The festival programme also includes street activity, performances and a separate programme of ticketed indoor events across the weekend.
