What to Expect

The Cottage Market takes over the first floor of Scotch Hall Shopping Centre in Drogheda and brings in more than 50 makers and producers from across north Leinster for the day. It is now in its tenth year, which makes it one of the longer-running indoor markets in the north east. The food end of the market is the strongest part of it: award-winning breads, cakes, chutneys and cheeses, oils, and local honey, alongside stalls selling international street food to eat on the spot.

Beyond food, the same floor carries jewellery, artwork, skincare, candles, fashion, books and vinyl records, so it works as a general browse rather than a purely edible one. Because it runs indoors in a shopping centre rather than on a street, it goes ahead regardless of the weather and stays comfortable for buggies and wheelchairs. The organiser, Eimear Cullen, runs it as a shop-window for independent producers who otherwise trade online or from home kitchens, so a lot of the stallholders are people you cannot buy from anywhere else in Drogheda. Turning up earlier in the day gives you the best pick of the baked goods, which usually sell out well before closing.

Getting There

Scotch Hall sits on the south bank of the Boyne at the Marsh Road, directly across the river footbridge from Drogheda town centre and West Street. The centre has its own multi-storey car park, which is the easiest option if you are driving in off the M1 at junction 9 or 10. Drogheda MacBride station is about ten minutes’ walk, and the Dublin Road bus stops used by Bus Eireann and Matthews coaches are a similar distance.
