At Cliffs of Moher Visitor Centre · Liscannor, Co. Clare
The Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience is open daily from 8am to 9pm and is the most visited paid attraction in County Clare. The centre itself is built into the hillside, so from the car park you walk up rather than into a building. Inside, the Atlantic Edge exhibition covers the ocean, the rock, the birdlife and the human history of the cliffs through interactive displays aimed squarely at children as much as adults. The Ledge is a short 4D film that follows a gannet out over the cliff edge, and it is the part most younger visitors remember.
Outside, paved and railed pathways run along the clifftop in both directions from the centre, north towards O’Brien’s Tower and south along the coast, with the Aran Islands visible on a clear day. There is a children’s play area near the entrance, fixed binoculars along the path, and two cafes on site. The cliffs are a Special Protection Area for seabirds, and puffins, guillemots and razorbills nest on the ledges through the breeding season, so bring binoculars if you have your own. The site is exposed: wind and rain come straight in off the Atlantic and the weather at the cliffs can be entirely different from Ennis or Lahinch half an hour away. Wear proper shoes and a windproof layer whatever the forecast says, and keep children well inside the railings.
The visitor centre is on the R478 between Liscannor and Doolin, about 35km from Ennis and roughly 40 minutes by car. From Galway it is about an hour and a half along the coast road through Ballyvaughan and Lisdoonvarna. Bus Eireann route 350 serves the cliffs from Ennis, Lahinch, Doolin and Galway. Parking is at the centre and is included with an online adult ticket; the car park fills from late morning in high season.
