At Tullow Library · New Road, Tullowphelim, Tullow, Co. Carlow, R93 E7R7
Tullow Library hands out a photo orienteering pack for Heritage Week and lets families work through the town at their own pace. The task is simple: find twelve heritage sites around Tullow using photo clues and an orienteering map. There is no set start time, no guide and no group to keep up with, so it suits families with children of different ages and stamina.
The map, the photo clues and a QR code to scan are all available at Tullow Library across the nine days of Heritage Week, so you collect the materials whenever the library is open and then walk the course when it suits. Carlow County Council runs it as part of the national Heritage Week programme and lists it as suitable for all ages and for families. It is free, there is nothing to book, and the whole thing works as a way of showing children a town they may only ever have driven through.
Tullow Library is on New Road on the edge of Tullow town centre, about 15km east of Carlow Town on the N81. Street parking and town-centre car parks are within a short walk. Bus Eireann route 132 between Dublin, Baltinglass, Tullow and Carlow serves the town, and the listing notes the event is accessible by public transport. The twelve sites are all within walking distance of the collection point.
