Ardattin Chip-Timed 5K and 10K Fundraising Run

At Ardattin village · Ardattin, Co. Carlow

Runners on a country road at a chip-timed autumn race

What to Expect

Ardattin hosts a chip-timed 5km and 10km on Sunday 18 October 2026, starting at 11.30am, with timing run by JustRuns Events. All the money raised goes towards the hall and the athletics field in Ardattin, so this is a village fundraiser rather than a commercial race series stop.

Chip timing means a proper result rather than a stopwatch guess, which pulls in club runners from across Carlow, Wicklow and Wexford, but the organisers state that all are welcome and the 5K is well within reach of anyone who walks regularly. Two distances on the same morning is a sensible format for a rural event: families can enter the shorter race while the serious runners take on the 10km.

Local businesses interested in sponsoring the event are asked to contact Margaret on 087 779 1570 or Trish on 086 169 7648. Mid October in south Carlow means autumn conditions on country roads, so plan for wind and wet underfoot.

Getting There

Ardattin is a small village in east Co. Carlow, on the R725 between Tullow and Bunclody, roughly 10km southeast of Tullow and about 25km from Carlow town. From Dublin, take the N81 through Baltinglass to Tullow and then the R725. From the M9, come off at junction 4 for Castledermot or junction 5 for Carlow and cross the county on the N80 and N81. Parking on race day is on the roadside and in the village, and roads will be partly in use by the race, so allow extra time and follow the marshals. There is no public transport to Ardattin; the nearest rail station is Carlow.
