What to Expect

Bunclody Library runs Toddler Rhyme Time every Wednesday at 11.15am at the library on Ryland Road. It is free, open to all ages, and no booking is needed, so families can drop in on the morning.

The session is a short run of songs, action rhymes and nursery rhymes led by library staff, aimed at toddlers and the adults who bring them. The purpose is straightforward. Repeated rhymes teach small children the rhythm and sound patterns of language before they can read a word, and the weekly repetition is what makes it work. Nobody expects a room of quiet toddlers, and children who wander off mid-song are part of the normal run of things.

Bunclody is one of the smaller branches in the Wexford library network, and its groups tend to be correspondingly informal, which suits parents who find larger town sessions daunting. The branch also runs Just Read!, a book club for ages 9 to 12, on the third Saturday of the month at 2.30pm, and a young adult book club for ages 13 to 15 on the first Friday at 4.15pm.

Getting There

Bunclody Library is on Ryland Road in the centre of Bunclody, close to the Mall, in the north west corner of County Wexford where the county meets Carlow and Wicklow. Drivers from Enniscorthy take the N80 north, and the same road runs south east from Carlow town into Bunclody. There is on-street parking on Ryland Road and around the Mall and the square. Bus Eireann route 132 between Dublin and Wexford serves the town, and local link services connect Bunclody with Enniscorthy. The nearest railway station is Enniscorthy, roughly twenty five kilometres to the south, on the Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort line.
