Bird Talks at the Irish National Heritage Park

What to Expect

The Irish National Heritage Park at Ferrycarrig runs a series of Bird Talks from Monday 17 to Friday 21 August 2026. A resident falconer brings out the park’s birds of prey and talks through their stories and origins, what each species does in the wild, and the conservation work behind keeping them.

The talks are pitched at general visitors rather than at specialists, so children get fun facts and adults get the conservation context, and both come away having seen the birds up close. Birds of prey demonstrations are one of the park’s standing attractions, and this run of talks concentrates them into a single week during the school holidays.

The talks themselves are free. Normal park admission still applies, so the cost of the day is the cost of getting into the park. That is reasonable value given the site itself: 35 acres of woodland and estuary walk containing sixteen reconstructions of Irish dwellings and monuments spanning 9,000 years, from a Mesolithic camp through a crannog, a ringfort, an early Christian monastery and a Norman motte. The park is open daily from 9.30am, with last admission at 4pm.

Getting There

The Irish National Heritage Park is at Ferrycarrig, on the N11 about four kilometres north west of Wexford town, on the banks of the Slaney estuary. Drivers coming south on the M11 and N11 from Gorey and Dublin reach it just before Wexford town, and there is free parking on site. From Wexford town it is a five to ten minute drive, or a longer walk out along the estuary. Local bus services on the Wexford to Enniscorthy route pass Ferrycarrig on the N11. The park is largely outdoors with woodland trails, so wear shoes suited to grass and gravel paths.
