Millennium Court Arts Centre in Portadown hosts a spooky pancake art workshop for children, led by Thai Cooking Arts. Over 90 minutes, children design and cook their own Halloween themed pancake art, using batter and simple techniques to create edible spiders, ghosts, pumpkins and other seasonal designs before eating their creations at the end of the session. The workshop suits children aged 7 to 12 and is a hands-on introduction to basic cooking and food art skills, framed around the Halloween season.
It is a popular option for parents looking for a daytime activity for children during the October half term period, and it runs on the Saturday afternoon rather than during the school week, making it easier to fit around other plans. Pancake art uses coloured batter piped onto a hot griddle in outline and fill layers, similar in principle to decorating a cake, so children get to see their design take shape step by step before it is flipped and finished. Everything made in the session is eaten on site at the end, so no food is taken home, and the class doubles as an introduction to basic hob and batter safety for the age group.
