What to Expect

Witches in Art is a multimedia art talk delivered by Carol O’Neill at Wexford Arts Centre on Saturday 7 November. The subject is how witches have been depicted by artists across the centuries, and the talk moves from the grotesque to the enchanting, taking in folklore, magic and the history of the witch trials along the way.

The images range from masterworks by Goya through to bolder reinterpretations by surrealist women artists, with the emphasis on artists who painted power, magic and rebellion rather than simply illustrating the folklore. Getting There

Wexford Arts Centre is in the Cornmarket in the pedestrianised heart of Wexford town, a short walk up from the quays and Main Street. Drive in on the N11 from Dublin and Gorey or the N25 from New Ross and Rosslare Europort. Wexford O’Hanrahan railway station, on the Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort line, is around ten minutes’ walk from the door. There is paid parking on the quay front and in the town centre car parks, and Saturday spaces are easier to find later in the afternoon than at midday.
