What to Expect

The fifth and final round of group games in the Pettitt’s Wexford Senior Hurling Championship is played on Sunday 23 August 2026, with all six fixtures across the two groups. This is the round that sets the knockout draw. Twelve clubs are split into two groups of six, and under this year’s format the top three in each group go straight through to the quarter-finals, while the fourth placed team in one group meets the fifth placed team from the other in a preliminary quarter-final. The bottom side in each group is left contesting relegation, so almost every game in the round has something riding on it.

The Group A fixtures are St Anne’s Rathangan against Faythe Harriers, St Martin’s against Naomh Éanna, and Shelmaliers against St Mogue’s Fethard. In Group B, Rathnure meet Ferns St Aidan’s, Rapparees play Oylegate-Glenbrien, and Glynn-Barntown face Oulart-the-Ballagh. Rathnure are the most decorated club in the competition’s history and Oulart-the-Ballagh have been the dominant modern force alongside St Martin’s, so the Group B pairings in particular carry weight. Venues and throw-in times for the round are confirmed by Wexford GAA closer to the date and are published on the county board’s fixtures listing. Games in this championship are spread between club grounds and Chadwicks Wexford Park depending on the pairing.

Getting There

Senior championship hurling in Wexford is played at club grounds spread across the county and at Chadwicks Wexford Park on Clonard Road in Wexford town, which is about a 15 minute walk from Wexford O’Hanrahan railway station on the Dublin to Rosslare Europort line. Rural club venues are reached by car. Parking around any ground hosting a senior tie fills fast, so arrive at least half an hour before throw-in or park in the nearest town and walk.
