What to Expect

Wexford Racecourse stages a two day meeting over the October bank holiday weekend, racing on Sunday 25 and Monday 26 October 2026. It is the last of the course’s fixtures in the calendar year and the pair of cards close out a season that runs from spring through to late autumn. Wexford is a jumps track: it dropped flat racing after the circuit was reconfigured from right handed to left handed in 2015 and now concentrates entirely on National Hunt, so both days are made up of hurdles, chases and bumpers.

The course’s one black type race, the M. W. Hickey Memorial Chase, a steeplechase of almost three miles for intermediate chasers, is run at Wexford in October, which gives the autumn meeting its best quality field of the year. October racing at Bettyville also marks the start of the proper jumps season, when yards begin running horses they have been holding back through the summer, so the fields tend to be bigger and the form harder to read than at a midsummer evening card. The track sits on high ground on the Newtown Road with the town below it, and the compact enclosure means you are never far from the parade ring, the rails bookmakers or the winner’s enclosure.

Getting There

The racecourse is on the Newtown Road on the western edge of Wexford town, roughly a five minute drive or a twenty minute walk from the Bull Ring, with parking on site on race days. Wexford O’Hanrahan railway station on the Dublin to Rosslare line and the town centre bus stops are both within walking distance for anyone travelling in without a car.
