At National Opera House · High Street, Wexford, Co. Wexford, Y35 FEP3
The Wexford Light Opera Society brings Hits from the Musicals back to the National Opera House for four nights from Monday 26 to Thursday 29 October, marking the 30th anniversary of the show. The evening is built around Broadway and West End favourites performed by the society’s award-winning chorus alongside guest performers, and it is staged cabaret style rather than as a straight concert. Catherine “Biddy” Walsh hosts.
Stephen Byrne directs, with David Hayes as musical director. The society has been a fixture of Wexford’s amateur musical scene for decades and this run is deliberately timed to sit inside the Wexford Festival Opera fortnight, so the town is already full of people who have come for singing. Doors open at 7:30 PM for an 8:00 PM start each night. Booking is by individual performance date, so pick your night rather than assuming a single ticket covers the run.
The National Opera House is on High Street in the centre of Wexford town, a few minutes uphill from the quay front. Reach Wexford on the N11 from Dublin and Gorey or the N25 from New Ross and Rosslare Europort. Wexford O’Hanrahan railway station, on the Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort line, is about ten minutes’ walk from the venue. Paid parking is available along the quays and in the town centre car parks, though festival fortnight is busy, so allow extra time on an 8:00 PM start.
