Hook Lighthouse holds its Harvest Moon Celebration on Saturday 26 September 2026, the sixth year the tower has run the event. The evening is built around watching the sun go down and the harvest moon come up over the Hook Peninsula while the lighthouse beam is sweeping overhead, which is a view very few places in Ireland can offer from the same spot.
The programme starts with a welcome drink in the Watchroom, the round room near the top of the tower that the keepers used to work from. That is followed by a private guided tour of the lighthouse, which is the oldest operational lighthouse in the world, built by the Normans in the early thirteenth century with walls up to four metres thick. The evening finishes with dinner in the Lighthouse Keepers’ conservatory, served with a glass of wine or craft beer. Tickets are €75 per person and pre booking is required, with numbers kept low because the tower and the conservatory only hold so many.
Bring a warm layer. Hook Head is exposed and September evenings on the point are considerably cooler than they are inland at Wellingtonbridge or New Ross.
Hook Lighthouse is at the very tip of the Hook Peninsula in south west Wexford. From Wexford Town take the N25 towards New Ross, then the R733 and R734 through Wellingtonbridge and Fethard on Sea, roughly an hour’s drive. From New Ross it is about 45 minutes on the R733. Coming from Waterford, the Passage East to Ballyhack car ferry cuts the journey considerably and lands you on the Wexford side near Arthurstown. There is free parking at the visitor centre. There is no public transport to Hook Head, so a car or taxi is needed.
