Wexford Parish marks the Feast of the Assumption on Saturday 15 August 2026 across its churches, with the vigil Mass at 5.45pm on Friday 14 August in Rowe Street Church. The Assumption is one of the older and better attended feasts in the Irish church calendar, and in Wexford it also opens the pilgrimage season at Our Lady’s Island down on the south coast, which runs from 15 August to 8 September each year.
The two churches at the centre of parish life in Wexford Town are known locally as the Twin Churches: the Church of the Immaculate Conception on Rowe Street and the Church of the Assumption on Bride Street. They were built at the same time in the 1850s to near identical designs by Robert Pierce, a pupil of Augustus Pugin, and their matching 70 metre spires are the two landmarks you see first coming into Wexford. Bride Street carries the Assumption dedication, so 15 August is that church’s patronal feast.

Rowe Street Church and Bride Street Church are both inside Wexford Town’s medieval street grid, a few minutes’ walk apart and a couple of minutes uphill from South Main Street and the Bullring. Wexford railway station on Redmond Place, on the Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort line, is about ten minutes on foot, and Bus Eireann and Wexford Bus services stop on the quays. Nearest parking is at Redmond Square, the Bullring or Ferrybank across the bridge. The streets around both churches are narrow and largely one way, so park and walk.
