Wexford Drama presents The Night Alive at Wexford Arts Centre

What to Expect

Wexford Drama Group bring Conor McPherson’s The Night Alive to Wexford Arts Centre for a four night run from Thursday 22 to Sunday 25 October, directed by Lee Hynes. The play is set in an Edwardian Dublin bedsit occupied by Tommy, a man in his fifties renting from his Uncle Maurice. Tommy and his friend Doc live in squalor and get by on odd jobs.

The story turns when Tommy rescues a young woman, Aimee, from a beating on the street. She stays on and gradually becomes part of the household, until her ex-boyfriend Kenneth arrives looking for her and the balance of the place comes apart. The cast is John Crosbie as Tommy, Frankie Kelly as Doc, Aoife Darcy as Aimee, Andy Doyle as Maurice and Mick Farrell as Kenneth. McPherson’s writing here is dark comedy shading into something more unsettling, and the production is rated suitable for ages 13 and over because of mature themes and strong language.

Getting There

Wexford Arts Centre stands in the Cornmarket in the pedestrianised centre of Wexford town, a short walk from the quay front and Main Street. Drive in on the N11 from Dublin and Gorey or the N25 from New Ross and Rosslare Europort. Wexford O’Hanrahan railway station, on the Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort line, is roughly ten minutes’ walk. Parking is tighter than usual during opera festival fortnight, so aim for the quay front car parks and allow extra time.
