Wexford Drama Group presents The Full Monty

At National Opera House · High Street, Wexford, Co. Wexford, Y35 FEP3

Amateur drama cast performing The Full Monty on stage in Wexford

What to Expect

Wexford Drama Group take over the National Opera House for three performances of The Full Monty on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 August. The stage version is written by Simon Beaufoy, who wrote the original film, and this production is directed by Linda Hynes. The setting is 1990s Sheffield, where Gaz is facing legal action from his ex-wife over unpaid child support.

Short of options and short of money, Gaz and his friend Dave put together an amateur male dance troupe from six recruits, a group that ends up including their former supervisor and a security officer. The National Opera House bills the show as combining blistering music with hearty belly laughs as the unlikely performers work their way towards their ambitious finale. It is a local amateur production on a professional stage, which is a familiar and well-supported combination in Wexford, and the Saturday matinee gives a second option for anyone who cannot make an evening.

Getting There

The National Opera House is on High Street in central Wexford, a couple of minutes’ walk uphill from the quay front. Drive in on the N11 from Dublin and Gorey or the N25 from New Ross and Rosslare Europort. Wexford O’Hanrahan railway station, on the Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort line, is about ten minutes away on foot. There is paid parking along the quays and in the town centre car parks, and the Saturday matinee overlaps with town shopping traffic, so leave extra time.
