What to Expect

The Wexford Community Bridge Centre is the shared home of eight active bridge clubs in Wexford town, ranging from novice groups through intermediate clubs to masters-level play. Rather than one club running one night a week, the centre operates as a hub, with different clubs taking different slots across the week, so the level of play and the atmosphere varies depending on which night you walk in on.

Slaney Bridge Club is the club currently publishing its results online through BridgeWebs, and the centre has said it is working to bring the rest of its clubs onto the same system. For visitors, the important point is that all clubs at the centre are open to visitors during the summer months, which makes it an unusually easy place to try out if you have played elsewhere and moved to the area.

September is the month the centre’s teaching programme restarts. Beginner lessons are run for new members each year, and they are the standard route in for anyone who has never played duplicate bridge before or who learned socially and wants to move on to club play. Lessons are arranged directly through the centre rather than booked online.

Getting There

The centre is in Wexford town, eircode Y35 A092, which the club recommends entering into a satnav or maps app rather than relying on a street name. Drivers arriving on the N11 from Gorey or the N25 from Rosslare and New Ross should follow signs for the town centre. Wexford O’Hanrahan railway station on Redmond Place sits on the Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort line, and Bus Eireann and Wexford Bus services stop on the Quay and at Redmond Square. Most members drive, and evening parking around the town is straightforward.
