Allow to Fallow, Allow to Fall Low at Luan Gallery

At Luan Gallery · Elliot Road, Athlone, Co. Westmeath

Mixed media installation exhibition at Luan Gallery Athlone

Luan Gallery in Athlone is showing “Allow to Fallow, Allow to Fall Low”, a new mixed media installation exhibition by visual artist Fiona Kelly, from Wednesday 9 September through to Sunday 15 November 2026. The exhibition centres on the idea of fallowness, considering stillness as both a method of making work and a form of resistance. Admission is free throughout the run.

What to expect

Kelly’s installation uses mixed media to explore land left fallow and the value of pausing rather than producing, a theme that runs through both the physical work and the way it is installed in the gallery space. The exhibition has an accompanying events programme: guided tours run on Culture Night, Friday 18 September, and an artist’s talk between Fiona Kelly and Dr Declan Long takes place on Saturday 3 October. Guided tours are open to all visitors but need to be booked in advance; the standing exhibition itself needs no booking and can be seen during normal gallery hours any day it is open.

Getting there

Luan Gallery is on Elliot Road on the west bank of the Shannon, right beside Athlone Castle. Athlone is well served by rail from Dublin Heuston and Galway, with the station a short walk from the gallery, and by Bus Eireann Expressway routes. Street parking is available nearby, with a multi storey car park a few minutes’ walk away in the town centre.

While you’re in Athlone

The gallery sits beside Athlone Castle, and the west bank streets around it are full of independent cafes and traditional pubs worth an hour before or after a visit. There is more to see in Athlone and across Co. Westmeath.
