What to Expect

Mt Melleray and An Rinn meet at Fraher Field in Dungarvan at 1:00 PM on Sunday 16 August in the Cup Division 1 decider of the Ballyrafter Service Station Western Junior C Hurling Championship. It is the early game of the day at the Dungarvan ground, with the rest of the western board’s Sunday programme, including the Junior A tie at Cappoquin, following later on.

Both clubs came through semi-finals on Sunday 9 August. Mt Melleray, from the Cappoquin hinterland below the Knockmealdowns, won by a single point against Brickey Rangers at Cappoquin, 2-15 to 1-17. An Rinn had a far more emphatic afternoon at Ardmore, putting 3-19 past Clashmore Kinsalebeg who finished on 0-10. An Rinn are the Ring Gaeltacht club and the game is one of the few adult county finals where you will hear as much Irish as English on the sideline. Junior C is the entry grade of the western board and the cup competition is its main silverware.
