Western Junior A Hurling Championship Semi-Finals 2026

At Fraher Field, Dungarvan and Cappoquin GAA Grounds · Fraher Field, Dungarvan and Cappoquin, Co. Waterford

Junior club hurlers in action on a summer evening in west Waterford

What to Expect

The Local Bar Western Junior A Hurling Championship reaches its knockout stage across two evenings in mid-August. Abbeyside-Ballinacourty meet Ballinameela under the Friday night lights at Fraher Field in Dungarvan on 14 August, and Deuglán Naofa face Ballyduff Upper at Cappoquin on Sunday 16 August.

Both of the qualifiers came through quarter-finals at Cappoquin on Saturday 8 August. Ballyduff Upper had six points to spare over Stradbally, 3-17 to 0-17, and Ballinameela were far too strong for Lismore, running out 4-17 to 1-15 winners. Junior A is the grade where the smaller west Waterford parishes get their day, and the Friday evening slot at Fraher Field tends to draw a good crowd off the back of the working week. Deuglán Naofa, the Ardmore club, take the short trip north to Cappoquin for the second tie.

Getting There

Fraher Field is a short walk from Grattan Square in Dungarvan, about 45 minutes from Waterford city on the N25 and an hour from Cork. Use the Davitt’s Quay or Grattan Square car parks and walk in rather than circling the ground. Cappoquin GAA is roughly 20 minutes north-west of Dungarvan on the N72 Blackwater valley road, about 15 minutes from Lismore and 25 from Tallow. There is parking at the Cappoquin grounds and along the approach road, but it is a small village pitch so arrive early for a knockout tie. Bus Éireann route 40 serves Dungarvan; there is no evening service to Cappoquin.
