What to Expect

The Morris DIY County Under 16 Hurling Championship runs through August across a Phase 1 league format and a regraded Phase 2 with cup knockouts. Two Division 4 games are down for Monday 17 August at 6:30 PM: Erins Own/Ferrybank against Portlaw at Poleberry, and Kilrossanty against Clashmore Kinsalebeg at Lemybrien.

The competition’s cup semi-finals were played the previous weekend and produced some of the better underage games of the summer. In the Phase 2 Division 1 cup semi-finals on 8 August, Abbeyside-Ballinacourty beat Roanmore 0-18 to 2-9 and Passage edged Ballygunner 2-24 to 1-24 at Ballygunner. In Division 1A, Stradbally beat Dungarvan by a point, 2-13 to 2-12, and St Oliver’s got past Mount Sion 3-18 to 3-16 at Aglish. Division 2 saw An Ghaeltacht beat Fourmilewater 3-13 to 1-17 at An Rinn and St Patrick’s beat Brickey Rangers 3-14 to 3-5, while Clonea overwhelmed St Marys Juvenile 7-13 to 1-10 in Division 3. Division 4 stayed in league play, with Kilrossanty beating Ballygunner 3-16 to 2-11 on 10 August.

Getting There

Poleberry is in Waterford city, just south of the centre near Morrissons Road and the Slievekeale area, within a 15-minute walk of the quays and served by city bus routes. On-street parking is the usual option. Lemybrien is on the N25 roughly midway between Waterford and Dungarvan, about 30 minutes from either, at the foot of the Comeraghs where the R676 turns north towards Kilmacthomas. The pitch is signposted from the main road and has its own parking. Bus Éireann route 40 between Waterford and Cork passes through Lemybrien, though evening timings do not suit a 6:30 PM throw-in in both directions.
