What to Expect

Tom Robinson plays Garter Lane Theatre on Tuesday 29 September 2026 with guitarist Adam Phillips, on a tour billed as tall tales and top tunes from half a century spent on the wilder fringes of the music industry. Robinson is 75 and the show is structured around that span: the songs sit alongside the stories, and the stories take in Alexis Korner, Ray Davies, Elton John, Peter Gabriel and Brian Eno, among others he crossed paths with along the way.

The setlist reaches from his 1975 acoustic trio work through to recent writing, taking in the punk-era songs that made his name plus deeper cuts that rarely surface. The narrative thread runs from first hearing the Sex Pistols, through his Rock Against Racism activism, into his years championing new artists on BBC Introducing and his time on the Ivor Novello Awards committee. Adam Phillips accompanies throughout. This is an early start at 7:00 PM rather than the usual 8:00 PM Garter Lane curtain. Tickets are €24.68 plus booking fee.

Getting There

Garter Lane Theatre is on O’Connell Street in Waterford city centre, a short walk from the Quay and the main city centre bus stops. Drivers come in on the M9 from Dublin or the N25 from Cork and Wexford, with multi-storey and on-street parking within a few minutes. Plunkett Station, the city’s rail and Bus Eireann terminus, is across the Suir on the north bank, roughly a fifteen minute walk over Rice Bridge.
