What to Expect

The group stage of the 2026 JJ Kavanagh & Sons County Senior Hurling Championship wrapped up on Sunday 9 August, and the quarter-final draw was confirmed the following day. Eight clubs are left standing: Ballygunner, Lismore, Fourmilewater, Passage, Roanmore, Abbeyside-Ballinacourty, De La Salle and Mount Sion. Two ties go ahead as a double-header at Fraher Field in Dungarvan on Saturday 15 August, with the other two at Walsh Park in Waterford city on Sunday 16 August.

Group B came down to the final round. Lismore beat Ballygunner B 1-20 to 0-16 at Lemybrien, Roanmore saw off Dungarvan by seven points, 1-20 to 1-13 at Fraher Field, and Fourmilewater came out four points clear of Mount Sion, 1-27 to 4-14, in a high-scoring finish on the same bill. In Group A, Ballygunner A beat Clonea 3-21 to 0-15 and De La Salle got past Abbeyside-Ballinacourty 0-25 to 1-15, both at Walsh Park, while Passage edged Ferrybank 1-17 to 2-12.

• Saturday 15 August at Fraher Field, Dungarvan: Ballygunner v Lismore, 3:00 PM, then Fourmilewater v Passage, 7:15 PM.
• Sunday 16 August at Walsh Park, Waterford: Roanmore v Abbeyside, 2:00 PM, then De La Salle v Mount Sion, 3:45 PM.
• Ballygunner go in as reigning county champions and the dominant side in the grade.
• Admission is charged at the gate. Throw-in times and venues can move at short notice, so check the Waterford GAA fixtures page on the morning of the game.
• The eventual county champions go straight into the Munster Senior Club Hurling Championship semi-final on 15 November.

Getting There

Fraher Field is a short walk from the centre of Dungarvan, about 45 minutes from Waterford city on the N25 and roughly an hour from Cork on the same road. Town-centre parking fills fast on a championship Saturday, so the Davitt’s Quay and Grattan Square car parks are the usual fallback. Walsh Park sits on the Slievekeale Road in Waterford city, around 15 minutes on foot from Plunkett Station and served by Bus Éireann city routes. Street parking near Ballybricken is the closest bet, and it goes early for a Sunday double-header.
