What to Expect

The Waterford Junior Camogie Club Championship runs a five-round group series through late summer, taking in ten teams across two groups with a bye rotating through each round. Round 1 was played on 30 July and the competition resumes with Round 2 on Sunday 16 August.

Group 1 covers Modeligo 2, Ballyduff Upper, Mellerey, Clonea 2 and Gailltir 3, mostly west Waterford and Comeragh clubs. Round 2 has Mellerey against Modeligo 2 and Ballyduff Upper against Gailltir 3. Group 2 takes in Mount Sion, De La Salle 2, Ferrybank, Lismore 2 and St Anne’s 2, and its Round 2 pairs De La Salle 2 with Ferrybank and St Anne’s 2 with Mount Sion. Junior is the entry grade of adult camogie in the county and it is where second and third teams give newer players and returning players their competitive games, so squads change from week to week.

• Round 2: Sunday 16 August. Round 3: Sunday 23 August. Round 4: Wednesday 2 September. Round 5: Sunday 13 September.
• Group 1 is Modeligo 2, Ballyduff Upper, Mellerey, Clonea 2 and Gailltir 3. Group 2 is Mount Sion, De La Salle 2, Ferrybank, Lismore 2 and St Anne’s 2.
• One team in each group has a bye each round, so check which games are actually on.
• Throw-in times and venues had not been published at the time of writing. Waterford Camogie confirm them close to each round.
• Admission is charged at most grounds, and junior camogie is among the cheapest adult club sport in the county.

Getting There

The two groups split roughly west and east. Mellerey and Ballyduff Upper are in the far west of the county along and above the N72 Blackwater valley road, with Mount Melleray sitting under the Knockmealdowns north of Cappoquin. Modeligo is inland off the R671, and Lismore is on the N72 about 25 minutes from Dungarvan. In the east, Mount Sion and De La Salle are Waterford city clubs on city bus routes, and Ferrybank is across Rice Bridge on the north bank of the Suir, a short walk from Plunkett Station. Bus Éireann route 40 serves Dungarvan and Lismore for the western venues.
