Waterford Junior B Hurling Championship Decider 2026: St Marys East v Ballygunner

At Dunhill GAA Grounds · Dunhill, Co. Waterford

Club hurlers competing for possession at a Waterford junior championship game

What to Expect

St Marys East and Ballygunner meet at Dunhill on Sunday 16 August in the last knockout tie of the Gerry Kennedy Crash Repairs Junior B Championship. Both came through semi-finals inside the previous week and both did it the hard way.

St Marys East, the Kill and Bonmahon side, had two points to spare over Kilmacthomas at Dunhill on Sunday 9 August, winning 2-14 to 1-15 in a game that never got beyond a puck of a ball either way. Ballygunner came through the second semi-final at Ballybeg on Monday 10 August, edging Roanmore 2-20 to 2-17 in a game that swung late. Junior B is where the second and third teams of the bigger clubs meet the first fifteens of the smaller parishes, and the mix usually makes for a physical, high-scoring hour. Dunhill hosts again after staging the first semi-final.

Getting There

Dunhill lies about 15 kilometres west of Waterford city, reached off the R675 coast road or by turning south off the N25 at Kilmeaden. From Tramore it is a ten-minute run north-west through Fenor, and from Kilmacthomas about 15 minutes east on the back roads. The pitch is signposted in the village close to Dunhill Castle. Parking is on the grass at the ground and along the village road, and a county-grade knockout tie fills both, so allow yourself 20 minutes’ grace. There is no scheduled Sunday evening bus to Dunhill, so drive or arrange a lift. The Waterford Greenway passes a few kilometres north at Kilmeaden if you are cycling across from the city.
