The Irish Humanities Alliance, the national body representing humanities research across Irish universities and institutes, holds its 2026 annual conference in Waterford. It runs over two days at South East Technological University’s College Street campus, opening on Thursday 3 September at 9.30am and continuing through Friday 4 September, under the theme “Un/Silencing Healthcare: Voices, Power and Imagination”.
The conference looks at healthcare through a humanities lens: whose voices get heard in medicine and care, where power sits in the system, and what history, literature, ethics and the arts can contribute to how healthcare is understood and delivered. Sessions bring together academics, health practitioners and researchers from across the island. The Alliance also holds its annual general meeting during the conference, on the Friday morning from 9am to 10am in Room C103 at the same campus, and that session is free. Registration for the main conference is open through the Alliance’s website.
The College Street campus sits just south of Waterford city centre, a ten minute walk up from the Quay by way of Barronstrand Street and Michael Street, or five minutes from the bus station. Drivers coming on the N25 should follow city centre signs and use the public car parks at City Square, Bolton Street or the Quay, as campus parking is limited during term. Plunkett Station is across Rice Bridge on the north bank, roughly a fifteen minute walk.
