What to Expect

Four city and county clubs are left in the Gerry Kennedy Crash Repairs Eastern Junior A Championship, and the semi-finals are split across two venues. Ballygunner and De La Salle meet at Poleberry on Friday 14 August, and Mount Sion take on Fenor at Kill on Saturday 15 August.

The quarter-finals were played over the previous weekend and all four winners had to work for it. Ballygunner beat St Saviour’s 1-21 to 1-9 at Butlerstown on 7 August. The following day Mount Sion got past Ballyduff Lower 2-25 to 1-20 at Ballybeg and Fenor beat Ballydurn 3-14 to 4-15 at Portlaw. De La Salle finished the round on Sunday 9 August with a 3-20 to 0-19 win over Clonea at Walsh Park. With Ballygunner, De La Salle and Mount Sion all in the last four, the eastern junior grade is effectively a city derby competition this year, and Fenor from the Copper Coast are the outsiders trying to break it up.

Getting There

Poleberry is in Waterford city just south of the city centre, close to the Ballybricken and Slievekeale area and within walking distance of the quays. On-street parking around Poleberry and Morrissons Road is the usual option and city bus routes run nearby. Kill is about 20 kilometres west of the city off the N25 towards Kilmacthomas, signposted from the main road at the Kill turn. From Tramore, come north through Dunhill and Fenor. There is parking at the Kill grounds and along the village road. Driving is the practical way to Kill, as evening bus services do not serve the village.
