Omagh Players stage “Boyd’s Shop” by St John Ervine at the Strule Arts Centre in Omagh, with three performances on Thursday 5, Friday 6 and Saturday 7 November 2026, all starting at 8pm.
“Boyd’s Shop” is a comedy drama set in the fictional Ulster village of Donaghreagh in the early twentieth century. The arrival of a young, innovative grocer in the sleepy, tradition-bound village unsettles the locals, and the play works its way through the clash between old habits and new ideas that follows from there. It is a full amateur production from Omagh Players, one of the town’s longer-running drama groups, staged across the three nights in the Strule’s main auditorium. Expect a dialogue-driven character piece rather than a big set-changing production, in keeping with the play’s original stage roots, with the village shop itself as the fixed setting the story plays out around. The comedy comes from the gap between the newcomer’s ideas and the village’s settled ways as much as from any single running joke, and the cast carries the story across the three performances with the same set and staging each night.
