What to Expect

The Strabane Pastoral Area keeps a monthly evening Mass in honour of St Pio of Pietrelcina at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Strabane, listed in the parish newsletter as a standing date rather than a one-off. Recent Masses have fallen on the first Wednesday of the month at 7pm, with the July Mass on the 1st and the August Mass on the 5th, so the next is expected on Wednesday 2 September 2026. The parish newsletter carries the confirmed date each week and is the place to check before travelling.

Padre Pio, the Capuchin friar canonised by Pope John Paul II in 2002, remains one of the most widely followed saints in Ulster parishes. He lived from 1887 to 1968, bore the stigmata for around fifty years, and became known well beyond Italy for the hours he spent hearing confessions at San Giovanni Rotondo. The Mass follows the ordinary weekday evening format, shorter than a Sunday Mass, with hymns, readings and prayers of intercession shaped around his life and his reputation for healing and spiritual counsel. Nobody needs to have attended before, and the congregation usually mixes regular Mass-goers with people who come only for this evening. The Strabane Pastoral Area covers the parishes of Camus, Clonleigh and Leckpatrick, spanning the Tyrone and Donegal sides of the border, and one office handles enquiries for all three.
