The Hills are Alive: Club Fifty at Wexford Arts Centre

What to Expect

Club Fifty is a one-night music, arts and activism gathering at Wexford Arts Centre on Saturday 15 August, presented by The Duncairn in Belfast in collaboration with the arts centre. The format is deliberately small: fifty guests in the room to hear performances and discuss current themes together, rather than a conventional concert with a stage and an audience.

The evening takes its cue from the arts centre’s current exhibition, Memory of a Free Festival, which documents the Carnsore Point anti-nuclear festivals of 1978 to 1981. Guest speakers are John Barry, professor of green political economy at Queen’s University Belfast, and Mary Reynolds, the landscape designer who founded We are the ARK. Music and poetry come from The Duncairn Creative Collective alongside Wexford artists Sammy Copley, Brendan Kerr and Ciara Maguire, Deirdre Kelly, Rua, Basciville, The Ocelots and Stephen James Smith. The night is part of The Hills Are Alive!, a project connecting communities from Cave Hill in Belfast to Vinegar Hill in Enniscorthy.

Getting There

Wexford Arts Centre is in the Cornmarket in the pedestrianised centre of Wexford town, a short walk up from the quay front and Main Street. Drive in on the N11 from Dublin and Gorey or the N25 from New Ross and Rosslare Europort. Wexford O’Hanrahan railway station, on the Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort line, is about ten minutes away on foot. Mid-August Saturdays are busy in the town, so use the quay front car parks rather than looking for on-street parking.
