Thanks for the Dance: The Leonard Cohen Story at Gorey Little Theatre

At Gorey Little Theatre · Gorey, Co. Wexford

A performer singing Leonard Cohen songs on a small theatre stage

What to Expect

Thanks for the Dance takes its title from Leonard Cohen’s posthumous 2019 album and works through his songs and his life story in a single evening at Gorey Little Theatre. It plays on the last Saturday in September at 8pm, part of the theatre’s run of autumn music bookings between its own drama productions.

Cohen’s material suits a small room. The songs were written for a voice and a few instruments rather than for scale, and Gorey Little Theatre seats a modest audience close to the stage, which is closer to the club settings Cohen played early in his career than to the arenas of his final tours. The theatre programmes several of these songwriter-story shows each season alongside straight tribute bands, and they are among its steadier sellers.

Getting There

Gorey is on the M11 in the north of County Wexford, about an hour from south Dublin and 40 minutes north of Wexford town. Gorey railway station sits on the Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort line within walking distance of the town centre, but late Saturday services are thin, so most people drive. Parking in Gorey town centre is free in the evenings and there are several car parks within a few minutes’ walk of the theatre.
