Taghmon Men's Shed Afternoon Sessions

What to Expect

Taghmon Men’s Shed meets twice a week, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 2pm to 5pm, and it is based at Taghmon Family Resource Centre on Joseph Street. The afternoon slot suits men who are not early risers or who have other commitments in the morning, and being housed inside the family resource centre means the shed sits alongside the centre’s other community services rather than off on its own.

Men’s sheds work on a simple principle. Men come together in a shared space, work on practical projects, and the company and the routine do as much good as the work itself. The Irish Men’s Sheds Association supports the network nationally and the local shed sets its own pace. Taghmon does not publish a detailed activity list, so what is on the bench in any given week depends on the members and the projects they have taken on. If you are thinking of joining, the usual approach is to phone one of the shed contacts first, then call in on a Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon and see how it suits you.

Getting There

Taghmon is a village on the R733 about sixteen kilometres west of Wexford town, between Wexford and Wellingtonbridge, and the family resource centre is on Joseph Street in the village itself. Drivers from Wexford town follow the N25 and turn onto the R733, or take the more direct local road through Barntown. From New Ross the N25 east then the R733 south is the usual run. There is on-street parking in the village and a car park at the resource centre. Bus services through Taghmon are limited, so most members drive or share lifts with others from the village.
