The Newry brothers behind songs like Mary and She Hits Me are back at the Spirit Store for what has become their regular post-Christmas homecoming show. The Spirit Store is a small, well-known live room on the Dundalk quays, and a band with this kind of following in an intimate venue makes for a close, well-attended night. Coming so soon after Christmas Day, the date has settled into something of a tradition for the band and their regular audience in the north-east, with the room generally filling up well before doors.
The Spirit Store is on Georges Quay, Dundalk (Eircode A91 NR79), on the waterfront a short walk from the town centre. The bar opens from 4pm on Mondays, ahead of the 7:30pm doors for the show.
Dundalk is the county town of Louth, a Norman foundation built around a motte where local tradition places the birth of Cú Chulainn, with a working main street and a music scene built around venues like the Spirit Store itself, long known locally for properly programmed live music on the quay. Oriel Park and St Patrick’s Cathedral are both worth a look if you’re in town before the show, and the county museum, housed in an 18th-century distillery warehouse, is small and worth the detour. There is more on Dundalk and the wider county at Dundalk and Co. Louth.
