Underwater cameraman Ken O’Sullivan brings Stories from the Sea to The Model on Friday, 13 November 2026, with an 8pm start at The Model in Sligo town.
O’Sullivan is an award-winning underwater cameraman, and the evening combines a screening with a Q&A drawing on what The Model describes as his 25-year journey exploring the North Atlantic and the seas around Ireland. He talks through encounters with marine life, including being surrounded by a pod of killer whales and swimming with dolphins and with fin and blue whales, the largest animals ever to have lived, alongside video footage from across his career. The Model frames the evening around the beauty of the natural world and O’Sullivan’s own emotional connection to it, built from personal insight as much as the footage itself, with the Q&A giving the audience a chance to put questions to him directly after the screening. Booking is essential, and tickets are handled through O’Sullivan’s own booking page rather than The Model’s box office.
The Model is on The Mall in Sligo town, F91 TP20. The building opened in 1862 as a schoolhouse before becoming Sligo’s contemporary art gallery and cinema, and now holds the Niland Collection, including paintings by Jack B. Yeats.
Sligo town sits between Ben Bulben’s flat top to the north and Knocknarea to the south, where a Stone Age cairn said to hold Queen Maeve’s grave looks back over the town, with the Garavogue river running through the centre. More on Sligo and Co. Sligo.
