What to Expect

Puisin Beag an Diabhail comes to Wexford Arts Centre on Friday 6 November, performed by the sibling duo Eire Ni Fhaolain and Cu Chulainn O Faolain. The two share a background in sean-nos singing, traditional music and poetry, and the Irish language sits at the centre of the work rather than being decorative.

The show takes its name and its material from Eire’s poetry collection of the same title, which digs into Irish folklore around black cats and the number nine. On stage the pair set that poetry against music, writing new compositions that draw on traditional sean-nos song while staying anchored in Irish literary and cultural tradition. It is a quiet, text-forward evening rather than a session-style trad gig, and it closes out the first week of November at the arts centre alongside the Witches in Art talk on the Saturday.

Getting There

Wexford Arts Centre is in the Cornmarket in the pedestrianised centre of Wexford town, a short walk up from the quay front. Drive in on the N11 from Dublin and Gorey or the N25 from New Ross and Rosslare Europort. Wexford O’Hanrahan railway station, on the Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort line, is about ten minutes’ walk. Paid parking is available on the quays and in the town centre car parks, with cheaper evening rates once the daytime charging period ends.
