What to Expect

Dr Richard Hogan brings Parenting the Screenager to Wexford Arts Centre on Thursday 24 September 2026. It is a live talk aimed squarely at parents of teenagers, built around the argument that today’s teenagers are growing up in a digital world moving faster than any generation before them, and that most parents feel behind on it.

The content is practical rather than academic. Hogan works through social media, bullying, body image, exposure to online pornography, exam pressure and teenage anxiety, and sets out how parents can strengthen communication with a teenager, set boundaries that hold, and read teenage behaviour more accurately when so much of a young person’s life happens on a screen. The Arts Centre describes it as an evening rather than a lecture, closer to a live show in tone, and pitches it as reassuring as much as informative.

Hogan is a family psychotherapist and clinical director of the Therapy Institute. He writes a weekly column for the Irish Examiner, has written bestselling books on family and adolescence, and appears regularly on RTE and Virgin Media Television. This is a single evening date in Wexford rather than a run.

Getting There

Wexford Arts Centre occupies the old Market House and Assembly Rooms on Cornmarket, in the middle of Wexford town’s pedestrian core, a couple of minutes’ walk up from the Quay. Drivers arriving on the N11 or N25 should follow signs for the town centre and use the Quay car parks or Redmond Square, both within five minutes on foot. Wexford O’Hanrahan railway station is about ten minutes’ walk along the Quay, on the Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort line. Bus Eireann and Wexford Bus services stop on the Quay. Evening parking charges on the Quay are lighter than daytime rates.
