Offaly U20 Hurling Championship 2026: Quarter-Finals

What to Expect

The Molloy Environmental U20 Hurling Championship is the last club grade before senior, and the Cup Division 1 quarter-finals this week put the county’s best young hurlers on the field on four consecutive match nights. Offaly’s underage hurling production line has been the county’s strongest asset in recent years, and this is where the players who will be filling senior club panels in 2027 and 2028 are seen properly for the first time.

Several of the teams are amalgamations, listed on the county board fixture sheet under short forms: SBK, CRCC and DSK all combine neighbouring clubs so they can field at the grade. St Rynagh’s host Shamrocks at Banagher on the Wednesday evening, Coolderry stages CRCC against Kilcormac-Killoughey on the Thursday, and the round finishes with Belmont v DSK at Moystown at midday on the Sunday. All four ties are single-game knockouts, so there is no second chance for any of them.

• Wednesday 12 August: St Rynagh’s v Shamrocks, Banagher, throw-in 7:00pm.
• Thursday 13 August: CRCC v Kilcormac-Killoughey, Coolderry, throw-in 7:30pm.
• Sunday 16 August: Belmont v DSK, Moystown, throw-in 12:00 noon.
• The fourth quarter-final, Birr v SBK at Grant Heating St Brendan’s Park, was fixed for Tuesday 11 August.
• Admission is taken at the gate. Semi-final and final dates follow once the quarter-finals are complete.
• Underage fixtures are among the most likely to be rescheduled, so check offaly.gaa.ie on the day.

Getting There

Banagher is on the Shannon in west Offaly, 20 minutes from Birr on the R439 and about 30 minutes from Ferbane, with parking at the St Rynagh’s grounds and in the town. Coolderry is in south Offaly a short drive from Birr, signposted off the local roads towards Kinnitty. Moystown is in the west of the county near Cloghan and Belmont, off the N62 Birr to Athlone road. None of the three has public transport worth planning around, so drive and allow time for narrow approach roads on match nights.
