At Various club grounds across County Offaly · Club grounds countywide, Co. Offaly
The HQPhysio Senior Championship is the top camogie competition in Offaly and runs from late July through to a county final in October. Eight clubs contest it, drawn into two groups of four. Group 1 holds Birr, Kilcormac Killoughey, Tullamore and Naomh Bríd. Group 2 holds St Cillian’s, Shinrone, Drumcullen and St Rynagh’s. Each side plays four rounds before the field splits into Senior A and Senior B semi-finals, with the losers of the B semi-finals meeting in a relegation match.
Round 1 at the turn of the month set the tone. Birr edged St Cillian’s by 0-14 to 0-12, St Rynagh’s beat Naomh Bríd 1-14 to 0-12, Kilcormac Killoughey and Shinrone finished level at 1-09 each, and Drumcullen put 1-17 past Tullamore. Round 2 on Sunday 16 August reverses several of those pairings, with St Rynagh’s meeting Birr in the standout tie and Shinrone taking on a Tullamore side badly in need of a result.
Home advantage decides the venue in each round, so the games are spread across the county from Banagher in the west to Birr and Shinrone in the south and Tullamore in the centre. Birr, Banagher and Shinrone are all reached on the N52, N62 and R439 from the M7 at Roscrea or the M6 at Athlone. Tullamore has the county’s only useful rail link, on the Dublin Heuston to Athlone and Galway line. Every club ground has parking on site or on the verge. Confirm the venue for your game with Offaly Camogie before you set out.
