Offaly Junior A Football Championship 2026: Round 3

What to Expect

Junior A is where the smallest football clubs in Offaly and the second teams of bigger ones meet, and the 2026 championship is split into two divisions of four. Division 1 holds Shannonbridge, Kilclonfert, Doon and the Shamrocks second team. Division 2 holds Erin Rovers, Clodiagh Gaels and the second teams of Durrow and Clara. With only four sides in each group, every round is close to a knockout game, and a single defeat can leave a club needing results elsewhere to go their way.

Round 3 is spread across three days. Clara’s second team host Durrow at Mucklagh on the Friday evening, Shannonbridge meet Kilclonfert at Ballycumber on the Saturday, and the Sunday brings a pair of midday throw-ins with Shamrocks v Doon at Ferbane and Clodiagh Gaels v Erin Rovers at Kilcormac. These are unglamorous, hard-fought games played in front of neighbours and family, and they are the best window into how deep the club game runs in rural Offaly.

• Saturday 15 August: Shannonbridge v Kilclonfert, Ballycumber, throw-in 5:00pm, Division 1.
• Sunday 16 August: Shamrocks v Doon, Ferbane GAA, throw-in 12:00 noon, Division 1.
• Sunday 16 August: Clodiagh Gaels v Erin Rovers, Kilcormac, throw-in 12:00 noon, Division 2.
• Admission is taken at the gate. Fixtures are confirmed weekly by Offaly GAA and can be rearranged, so check offaly.gaa.ie first.

Getting There

Mucklagh is a village on the N52 just south west of Tullamore, close enough to walk or cycle from the edge of the town. Ballycumber sits between Clara and Ferbane in west Offaly, and Clara railway station on the Dublin Heuston to Galway line is roughly ten minutes away by car. Ferbane is on the N62 Birr to Athlone road, and Kilcormac is on the N52 between Birr and Tullamore. All four grounds have on-site or roadside parking, and none is served by a regular weekend bus, so allow for driving.
