Church of the Assumption Tullamore 40th Anniversary Mass

At Church of the Assumption · Church of the Assumption, Tullamore, Co. Offaly

Interior of a modern Irish parish church set for Mass

What to Expect

Tullamore Parish marks the 40th anniversary of the dedication of the Church of the Assumption with a celebratory Vigil Mass on Saturday 15 August 2026. The Mass will be celebrated by the Bishop of the Diocese of Meath, Tom Deenihan. The parish has invited all parishioners, past and present, to gather in thanksgiving for the milestone, so a much larger congregation than a normal Saturday evening is expected.

The building being honoured replaced a church that had stood for 77 years before it was destroyed by fire on 31 October 1983. The present Church of the Assumption was dedicated on 17 August 1986 in a ceremony that ran for two and a half hours and drew several bishops along with the Papal Nuncio. The 2026 anniversary Mass falls on the feast of the Assumption itself, the church’s patronal day, which gives the occasion a double significance for the parish.

Getting There

The Church of the Assumption sits in the centre of Tullamore, so the easiest approach is to park in one of the town centre car parks and walk. Tullamore is reached on the N52 from Mullingar and Birr, and on the N80 from Portlaoise and Mount Lucas. Tullamore railway station is on the Dublin Heuston to Galway line and is a short walk from the town centre. Street parking near the church fills quickly around Mass times, so allow extra minutes on a feast day.
